Description

NONLIN is an simple-but-powerful analysis tool for the determination of the response of single degree of freedom structures.  Structures modeled using NONLIN include a variety of elastic and inelastic systems, including material nonlinearies due to inelasticity, and geometric nonlinearities due to buckling response.  NONLIN uses a classic step-by-step temporal integration scheme to solve the resulting nonlinear equations of motion for the SDOF oscillator, and while NONLIN provides powerful SDOF analysis capabilities, its intended purpose is to aid in the practical education of those interested in nonlinear dynamic structural response.

Features

The core features of NONLIN are those required for the performance of SDOF analyses, namely a step-by-step stable integration of the nonlinear equations of motion.  In addition to this base feature set, NONLIN permits saving the results of the analysis in Excel-spreadsheet format for subsequent use, and NONLIN also provides visual representation of the computed results.  NONLIN courses are offered by FEMA, and interested users are encouraged to attend one of these courses.
